The July 7th edition of WWE SmackDown at Madison Square Garden (MSG) in New York City left a significant mark on wrestling history. Not only did the show become the highest-grossing event ever held at MSG, but it also set a new record as the highest-grossing domestic SmackDown show. Riding the wave of this unprecedented success, WWE is reportedly considering making changes for future events at the iconic venue.

WWE’s return to Madison Square Garden for an electrifying episode of SmackDown garnered immense attention from fans. As Jey Uso issued a challenge to the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, the atmosphere reached a fever pitch. Following the show’s conclusion, WWE made the announcement that SmackDown had not only shattered previous records at MSG but had also set a new milestone as the highest-grossing domestic SmackDown event in the company’s history.

Potential Changes to MSG Stage Setup

In light of the record-breaking success, Andrew Zarian of the Wrestling Observer has reported that WWE is exploring the possibility of modifying its stage setup for future MSG shows. The aim would be to maximize the seating capacity and optimize the fan experience at the famous New York venue. However, any decision regarding a smaller stage setup would depend on early ticket sales, as stated by Zarian in a recent tweet.

Friday’s SmackDown event at MSG drew an impressive near-sell-out crowd, with over 13,500 tickets sold, according to WrestleTix. Apart from the financial milestones achieved, last week’s SmackDown at MSG featured captivating moments and noteworthy returns. Jey Uso’s challenge to Roman Reigns following Tribal Court left fans buzzing with anticipation. Additionally, WWE Hall of Famer Edge made a triumphant return, initially appearing as a guest on “The Grayson Waller Effect” and later engaging in a thrilling singles match against host Grayson Waller. This event marked Waller’s highly anticipated main roster debut.

As WWE continues to expand its global reach, the consideration of changes to future MSG events demonstrates their commitment to adapting and evolving. By exploring the possibility of a smaller stage setup, WWE aims to enhance the fan experience and accommodate a larger audience at the legendary Madison Square Garden. As the success of recent events at MSG has shown, the support and early ticket sales will likely play a crucial role in determining the direction of these changes.
