Gilbert Burns vs. Sean Brady: What does the result mean for the welterweight division?

In the ever changing world of mixed martial arts, especially in the UFC’s welterweight division, a single fight can change the path of the title, the position of the contenders and the history of the fighters. Closely contested bouts such as Gilbert Burns vs. Sean Brady are the type of fights that have the potential to set the division on its head. The two fighters had a lot riding on this fight and the result not only impacted the two men directly but also the future of the welterweight division.  In this article, we’ll look at the fight itself, the aftermath of the fight, and what it means for the welterweight division. Also, we will look at possible future bouts for both Burns and Brady and for the rest of the contenders who are aiming to challenge for the UFC title. At the end of this exhaustive study, we will be in a position to understand the position of the division and how this outcome affects the hierarchy.  Chapter One: The Fighters – Context and Importance  Before we look at the result, it is important to know the background of these two fighters when they entered the Octagon.  Gilbert “Durinho” Burns  Gilbert Burns has been a part of the UFC for quite some time now and has earned his place as one of the most deadly and well rounded fighters in the welterweight division. Born as a Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) black belt, Burns has over the years built up his stand-up skills in order to become a versatile fighter. Burns was once a lightweight fighter and he got a new lease of life when he stepped up the welterweight division where he could use his strength and grappling skills to the fullest.  This was when he got his biggest break in 2020 when he got a title shot against the welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. Even though Burns got defeated in the bout, he was still a popular fighter because of his grit and the thrilling exchanges in the fight especially when he stunned Usman in the beginning. Since then, Burns has faced elite level of competition and has kept on with his top five ranking after defeating fighters such as Stephen Thompson and Neil Magny. A win over Sean Brady will be another accomplishment in his career and may get him another title shot or a number one contender fight.  Sean Brady  Sean Brady is one of the new generation fighters of the UFC. Before this match, Brady had not lost a single fight and gained his reputation thanks to victories over such opponents as Jake Matthews and Michael Chiesa. Popular for his wrestling, grappling, and a very suffocating top game, Brady was seen as a dark horse in the welterweight division. However, he did not have the same popularity as Burns, but his skills and the fact that he had never been knocked out were telling of his abilities.  This fight with Burns was a perfect opportunity for Brady to make a statement and establish himself in the welterweight division, get a shot at the title and make a name for himself. If Brady defeats Burns, he will establish himself as a serious contender and will get a chance to face big names such as Colby Covington, Khamzat Chimaev or even Leon Edwards based on the title situation.  Chapter 2: The Fight – Scene by Scene and Tactical Analysis  This was a highly anticipated match since both Burns and Brady provided a great style of fighting. Burns, who possesses lethal knockout punch and phenomenal grappling skills, was pitted against Brady who is known for his wrestling and ground control and this made for an interesting match up.  Round 1: Testing the Waters  During the initial round, both the fighters were quite reserved as they were still trying to gauge their opponent’s strength and strategy. Burns was using his movement to keep the distance and threw quick flurries of punches while Brady was trying to get inside and clinch with him. Brady, who is a wrestler, was probably trying to see how good Burns is at defending takedowns in the early stages of the fight.  But, Burns stood his ground and the experience that he had made him hit the more powerful shots in the range. While Brady was somewhat effective in moving closer and trying to take Burns down, Burns was able to do a good job at stopping it. The first round was a fairly even battle, but Burns’ striking appeared to be the key factor as he was able to land several leg kicks and sharp jabs which put Brady off balance.  Round 2: Momentum Shifts  In the second round the fight started to get more exciting and less technical. Brady started to come forward with more intent knowing that he had to take the fight to the wrestling. He was able to drop Burns in the middle of the round but Burns’ BJJ was evident as he threatened with submission and was able to get back to his feet as quickly as possible.  Feet, however, started to suit Burns and he began to get into the rhythm. He was able to land several strong punches that would stagger Brady, including a right hand that appeared to pain Brady. Recognising this, Burns went for the attack but Brady’s heart and chin allowed him to survive the storm. Nevertheless, it was noticeable that Burns was more effective in the striking department especially as the fight progressed and Brady began to slow down due to the energy that Burns was putting in.  Round 3: Burns Takes Over.  It was in the third round that Burns was seen to be taking the lead. He kept on connecting with the cleaner and more devastating shots, and although Brady was trying to close the distance and get the fight to the mat, Burns’ backpedaling and defense was sound. Burns even started to engage in his grappling which meant that Brady had

Walterweight’s most iconic moments in History.

The welterweight division in MMA and boxing has always been one of the most exciting and memorable divisions in combat sports. The welterweight division is regarded for its fast, strong and skillful warriors who have created legends, memorable fights and moments in the combat sports. For years, the division has provided some of the most exciting title fights and bitter rivalries in the sport.  In this article, we will look at some of the greatest moments in welterweight history and how the division has developed through the great performances, classic clashes, and thrilling bouts. We will focus on the most important events in boxing and MMA since the welterweight division affects both of them.  1. Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Roberto Durán I & II (1980) – The “No Más” Fight  Some of the greatest welterweight fights of all time can be credited to Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Durán, two fighters who are polar opposites in terms of fighting techniques and attitude. Their first fight which was dubbed “The Brawl in Montreal” occurred on the 20th of June in the year 1980. Durán, the Mexican pound for pound king, who is famous for his pressure and rough fighting, outpointed Leonard to win the WBC Welterweight title by unanimous decision. This was to become a high point for Duran and a low point for Leonard who was touted as the golden boy of boxing.  The second fight that took place on November 25, 1980, is considered as one of the most notorious fights in the history of boxing. Leonard, fighting in a much more elusive and counterpunching manner, managed to anger Durán with his speed and mobility. In the eighth round, Durán made one of the most unexplainable moves of his career by turning his back towards Leonard and saying “No más” which means no more and this meant that he was through with the fight. The “No Más” fight became one of the most legendary fights in the history of boxing and welterweight division, and it also became the symbol of Leonard’s comeback.  2. Georges St-Pierre’s Reign in UFC Welterweight Division (2006-2013)  Of course, when talking about the welterweight division and its most memorable moments, it is impossible not to mention Georges St-Pierre, one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time. The period between 2006 and 2013 can be considered as the GSP’s domination of the UFC welterweight division due to his technical excellence, discipline and overwhelming victory. These were some of the attributes that saw him outwrestle wrestlers, outstrike strikers and submit grapplers thus making him almost unbeatable in the division.  Probably one of the most memorable moments in St-Pierre’s career is his rematch with Matt Serra at UFC 83 in 2008. In their first fight, Serra had stunned the world by stopping GSP and taking the welterweight title in what was one of the biggest shocks in UFC history. In the rematch, GSP took apart Serra and won by TKO in the second round to become the champion again. After that GSP would go on to defend his title nine times in a row against some of the toughest opponents including BJ Penn, Jon Fitch, Thiago Alves and Nick Diaz.  GSP was a very technical fighter, very athletic and very intelligent in the cage which made him one of the most popular fighters in the UFC and one of the greatest champions in the history of the company. His decision to retire in 2013 after a controversial win over Nick Diaz and a victory over Robbie Lawler in the last fight of his career at middleweight in 2017, will be remembered in the welterweight division.  3. Oscar De La Hoya Vs Félix Trinidad (1999) – The Fight of the Millennium.  Oscar De La Hoya and Félix “Tito” Trinidad were the best fighters in the welterweight division when they met on September 18, 1999 in what was called the “Fight of the Millennium”. Both fighters were entering the ring with their undefeated records and the fans were eager to see who will be the best of the two.  De La Hoya who is known for his speed, boxing skills and his handsome looks was more technically sound than Trinidad who was a feared puncher with knockout power in both hands. The fight was a more tactical one with De La Hoya outboxing Trinidad in the early rounds using his jab and footwork to keep out of Trinidad’s reach. But in the last few rounds of the fight, De La Hoya for some reason decided to lay back and not throw as many punches as he should have, thinking that he had taken enough of a lead on the judges’ scorecards.  When De La Hoya backed up Trinidad capitalized on this and dominated the later rounds of the fight. In a split decision that raised many eyebrows, Trinidad was declared the winner over De La Hoya, thus handing the latter his first defeat in professional boxing. It is still considered as one of the most contentious decisions in the history of boxing with many people thinking that De La Hoya should have emerged the winner. However, it further reinforced Trinidad as the welterweight champion and went down in the annals of the division’s history.  4. Matt Hughes vs. Frank Trigg II (UFC 52, 2005) – The Ultimate Comeback  The welterweight division has perhaps one of the most memorable fights that happened in UFC 52 in 2005, where Matt Hughes and Frank Trigg faced each other for the second time after their fight in 2003. In the first fight Hughes had submitted Trigg with a rear-naked choke to defend his welterweight title. The rematch, however, came up with one of the most dramatic and memorable moments in the history of UFC.  In the first round, Trigg hit Hughes with an illegal knee to the groin and capitalized on the fact that the referee did not see it to proceed to pummel his opponent. Trigg looked like he was going

Welterweight Saga : A Round-Up Of The UFC’s Latest Drama

The most exciting UFC welterweight division reveals itself as a roller coaster ride with the sequences named fight scenes, inter- and intrastate conflicts, and finished by an array of remarkable small events and spicy rivalries occupied by heated controversies. They totally endeared themselves to the warped feelings that overcame the fans when the fight was announced, and the potential clashes that were much anticipated by the fans with Venom Paul and Colby Covington made the fans wait until the downbeat of the hour. The diminutive Joaquin Buckley is the welterweight pugilist who has emerged to boxing prominence having made his debut ever since his movement from middleweight to welterweight last year. So far, his displays on the boxing ring have been the subject of headlines only for displaying virtuoso performances. The five-round tourney will be a fair evaluation of competitors’ knowledge and skills. Each fighter is a tough battler and has been successful in the octagon. The victory over an experienced champion, Vicente Luque, has granted Buckley his third win in a row, which brought him to the UFC’s welterweight draw. By bringing that in with the attention that this particular fight gave him and with his Grove Street Cabbage contest, he got a taste of what it is like to get ranked, and his popularity with the fans exploded. Finally, the motion should be peaceful. The “Iceman” was to lash out at me. Amongst all future stars who have shredded the spotlight recently, one that I feel deserves special mention is “the Future,”  a popular pseudonym many give for Ian Garry at the 170 lbs division of the UFC. The upcoming fight with Geoff is what is happening now, and after that, a new challenge is waiting for him, the one he compares with the former interim champ, Colby Covington. The Giants’ first baseman can enjoy his Twitter rivalry with Covy, whose own fans are standing by to watch the heat that will be burning on the occasion of the big field battle. But unfortunately, awful things aren’t limited to that case. Whether you like it or not, Colby’s decision to jam in a fight against Michael J. Venom Page on the same night is raising many eyebrows across the welterweight community. While a UFC novice and in the midst of losing streaks to Holland, he is still deservingly qualified to fight for some elite UFC titles. Even though the match-ups are still going on in the background and the negotiations are not over yet, the fans certainly do not need to wait until the final story is written to enjoy this tasty plot. Through selling out their spectacular and exciting fight, either Buckley will make Ian uncomfortable with the idea of competing or produce sharp fighters who will get into the Octagon. Well, will it be Ian’s third time lucky (fighting even Collin Covington) and ultimately come to a stage where he can command his status as an elite contender? One thing is for certain: the fight between the welterweights has turned out to be a meaningful brawl, and fighters like Joaquin Buckley and Ian Garry are so motivated that no dream is too audacious. As fans eagerly await the next chapter in this gripping saga, one thing is certain: let me tell you, watching UFC welterweight’s main event weighing in at 170 lbs was something to behold. Amidst the chaos of the welterweight division, one fighter stands out as a rising star: First of all, the main cause of traffic flow in this area is the shopping mall of Joaquin Buckley, a local right shop where the stylish clothing of the town is sold. This impressive performance of his starting from medium to welterweight sports title was something numerous people couldn’t believe. He beat each opponent, who in turn made him earn a higher title. Another reason why Tyson Fury has global popularity is his untechnical and fearless boxing style, which, along with his knockout hits, showed fans around the world how he could fight. He really is a massive man. He is the real  champion of the UFC in their wrapped-up welterweight division. Nonetheless, Ian Garry goes against Tom + Assi, and he seems to go in with full confidence without the slightest doubt, being a 16-0 amateur. Coined as “The Future,” Gary, with the reputation of being the downfall of the division’s central nervous system, is another false story of his life because he has never been one to play games. As if he stamped his recent calling out of the top dogs in the commercial combat sport industry, the true icy thrill is now about to come to the highest level. It were only two contenders who outshone the welterweights in their notorious status, but an earful of the other welterweights are often raked up in other fights, not quite as popular ones. After all, a different kind of fighter sets the tone in the gym, while young players on the block, which include fighters like Michael ‘Venom’ Page, too have their own eclectic kinds of fighting styles and are also expected to muddle up the division. For Buckley, the path to welterweight supremacy is clear: the kid decides to pull off the habit of hitting the target, possibly against the most experienced and well-skilled teams within the league as well. With whisper guns looking to target Ian Garry and Michael ‘Venom’ Page, greedier fighters are also jumping on the bandwagon. They believe they can punch with Ian Garry—or any other welterweight fighter at the highest level—and claim that they are the best in the business. The last week of UFC 277 has witnessed one fight cancelled, and now, the match-up between Garry and Colby Covington has signalled that he is as distant in his quest as he is in his self-esteem. The UFC is a fast-growing organisation for which few are renowned for decades of service, but in spite of the fact that Garry has only recently started his career in the
