Kevin Holland Explains Why He Turned Down Jack Della Maddalena Fight At UFC 293
Kevin Holland recently revealed why he didn’t accept Jack Della Maddalena’s call-out for a fight at UFC 293. The perennial welterweight contender has established himself as one of the most active fighters in the UFC. With an “anytime, anyone, anywhere” sort of mentality, Holland is undoubtedly among the most well-liked fighters in MMA.
While ‘Trailblazer’ had no problem fighting Della Maddalena in Sydney at UFC 293, he grew weary of the Australian’s constant callouts. Over the past few weeks, Della Maddalena had been adamant about fighting on his home turf in Sydney. However, the UFC didn’t grant him his wish and booked him against Kevin Holland for Noche UFC this weekend.
During the recent Noche UFC pre-fight press conference, Kevin Holland opened up about why he didn’t fight Jack Della Maddalena in Sydney last weekend. The No.13-ranked welterweight contender claimed that he would’ve accepted the fight if he were formally offered the bout. However, since the promotion never came to him with an offer, he didn’t even consider the possibility.
Moreover, Kevin Holland outlined how the UFC would have to cover his taxes in Australia for him. He reminded the reporters present that his second promotional outing was in China. Using that as an example, Holland drove home the point that he’s always ready to fight anyone, anywhere, anytime.
Kevin Holland also took a shot at Jack Della Maddalena and stated that the Australian wasn’t worth flying an opponent out to the land down under. Holland urged Della Maddalena to be content about his Timex sponsorship and to refrain from calling out for fights.
Kevin Holland is coming off a two-fight win streak. ‘Trailblazer’ last defeated Michael Chiesa via first-round submission. Meanwhile, Jack Della Maddalena is on an incredible 15-fight win streak. He last tasted defeat against Darcy Vendy in May 2016.
