Jack Della Maddalena: “I’m Sure The Haters Will Keep Talking”
The 27-year-old Australian mixed martial artist Maddalena knows his split decision win over Kevin Holland won’t compete for Fight of the Year 2023, but that’s okay. He did what he had to do to win and that’s why he’s happy.
Over three rounds on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena, Della Maddalena (16-2 MMA, 6-0 UFC) and Holland (25-10 MMA, 12-7 UFC) engaged in an unorthodox technical bout in the co-main event at UFC Night. Della Maddalena addresses the strategic approach to the unpredictability of the Netherlands.
“It’s hard to read and I didn’t know what to expect going in there, so I just wanted to be solid defensively landing the punches. “I wanted to try to take it to the last round, but yeah, it was difficult to read.”
“… I was trying to (finish). I have to be good defensively. I have to try to keep my head from splashing the cage. I want to be solid defensively and pick my shots. I was trying.” With the win, Della Maddalena kept her perfect promotional record intact. Della Maddalena, not one to make comments or mention names, didn’t take the bait when he offered her other unreserved names in the welterweight division.
“I probably want to get one more before the end of the year. I’ll just go back home, make the long trip home, get back to training and try to schedule the next fight .”
