Amir Khan Predicts Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo Boxing Match
Iconic British pugilist Amir Khan recently shared his two cents on the upcoming Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo bout. The former super lightweight champion claimed that the Mexican is utterly dominant in his weight class and doesn’t see anyone taking his spot anytime soon.
Interestingly, Khan faced Alvarez in May 2016. The Mexican boxer dominantly defeated ‘King Khan’ via sixth-round knockout. Given their history, Amir Khan knows what it’s like to stand against the Mexican boxing champion.
Canelo Alvarez is widely known as one of the best boxers in the world and is easily the face of Mexican combat sports. He is now set to face undisputed junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo at 168 pounds on September 30. The bout will mark Alvarez’s third undisputed title defense and Charlo’s first super middleweight challenge.
Given that ‘Iron Man’ is moving up two weight classes above to face Canelo Alvarez, many believe that the Mexican will comfortably come out on top. However, some fans claim the super middleweight kingpin hasn’t looked the same in his past three outings, giving Jermell Charlo a puncher’s chance.
During an interview with SecondsOut, Amir Khan discussed the eagerly-awaited boxing match. He recalled his fight against Canelo Alvarez and confidently predicted a win for the Mexican.
He called Alvarez a “beast,” revealing that he’s much faster in the ring than people think. Khan also praised the Mexican’s combos and the speed with which he throws them. He said:
“Canelo’s a beast… I don’t think anyone is beating Canelo.”
Amir Khan also emphasized the importance of established weight classes in boxing and explained how boxers fighting outside their division are at a disadvantage.
Canelo Alvarez is coming off a unanimous decision win against John Ryder. Meanwhile, Jermell Charlo last beat Brian Castano via tenth-round KO.
