All 6 Confirmed Matches For WWE Payback 2023
Payback is knocking on the door, and if you do read sports entertainment content, chances are you know that a major title change may only take place at a PPV, not otherwise. Austin Theory closing his 0 to The Master of the 619 was a breath of fresh air, but that usually doesn’t happen anymore. But that brings us to Payback, where all scores will be settled once and for all. On that note, here are 6 sure to happen matches at Payback:
1. Trish Stratus vs. Becky Lynch
This rivalry is sure to come to a close when the two divas and the best of their respective generations meet to settle their issues once and for all. Becky Lynch has shown that she respects the legend only as much and will not look to share the spotlight a minute longer, should the veteran wish to bask in its shining glory. Payback will decide the conclusion, and as of now, it seems that someone is sure to fall in line.
Considering this may well be Trish Stratus’ last year with the company, she will want to leave on a high.
2. Seth Rollins vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
This feud may well be settled at Payback, as Shinsuke Nakamura has tested the patience of Seth Rollins. Monday Night Rollins, who will look to defend the World Heavyweight Title against a superstar who has The Messiah’s number of late, Shinsuke Nakamura, After two Kinshasas, the King of Strong Style got his shot at the gold, and we expect nothing but a 5-star match from two of the best wrestlers in the world, period!
3. Rhea Ripley vs. Raquel Rodriguez
Rhea Ripley is expected to defend the WWE Women’s World Championship at Payback against the slightly taller Raquel Rodriguez. This was a bout that was a done deal back in SummerSlam but was left out by the creative. Raquel Rodriguez has been waiting to take out Mami and prove her superiority. With Judgement Day around the corner, this match may have just the right amount of sauce to be a cult classic.
4. Gunther vs. Chad Gable
In our previous article on CombatSports247, we dissected for you how Gunther vs. Gable will not have a clean finish on Raw. With a classic such as the one we have, there are no doubts that this cake will be spoiled by the non-competing members of the Imperium who will get Gunther disqualified, only to keep the title and remain Intercontinental Champion. This has brought us to Payback, where this feud will be ended once and for all. The title may not exchange hands on next week’s Raw but may do so at WWE Payback.
5. The Miz vs. LA Knight
This was a match that was on the cards even before it was announced. It all started with the A-lister shunning the newest fruit in the market, LA Knight, and saying he was nothing more than sour grapes. The LA Knight Express has been going full steam in the direction of The Miz, and it will be interesting to see how the former Intercontinental Champion deals with a complexity of this magnitude.
The Miz does not like being sidelined by up-and-coming talent. He is known to hold down talent and not give them their rightful share of the spotlight. It’s now or never for the A-Lister to keep his stock high, and what better way than to take out the darling of the masses? The Miz never got the applause that he deserved and is hence still bitter over why a relatively new superstar, LA Knight, gets so much TV time.
6. The Grayson Waller Effect with Guest Cody Rhodes
This just came in and may well take the PPV by storm. Cody Rhodes has been added to the roster following his recent flick with Grayson Waller. Expect this match to be confirmed during the show. Grayson Waller knows this is his chance to get noticed by the entire WWE Universe and make a name for himself. Should he pull off the mammoth upset, his name could be inserted into the title picture.
