3 Released WWE Male Superstars That AEW Might Target In 2023

1 years ago By Sports Desk

Last week, WWE made a surprising move by letting go of several wrestlers from both its development and main rosters. This decision was attributed to budget constraints and the merger of two wrestling giants, WWE and UFC, to create a single publicly traded entity known as The TKO Group Holdings.

Among the releases, some were truly shocking to the wrestling community. Let’s take a look at three male WWE superstars who were recently released and whom AEW might have its eye on in 2023:

3) Shelton Benjamin

Shelton Benjamin, at 48 years old, may not have much left in the tank for in-ring competition, but he possesses a wealth of experience that could benefit AEW in various roles. He could serve as a mentor, coach, manager, producer, commentator, or even make special appearances as a wrestler in the squared circle. His veteran status could prove invaluable in helping new talent connect with the audience, producing matches backstage, providing coaching, or serving as a mentor.

2) Mustafa Ali

At 37 years old, Mustafa Ali is a phenomenal high-flyer and is widely regarded as one of the best to emerge from NXT in this regard. His skill set could be a significant asset to AEW, particularly given his proficiency on the microphone and experience as the leader of WWE’s faction, The Retribution, on the main roster. He’s versatile and adaptable, making him an attractive target for AEW following his release.

1) Dolph Ziggler

Dolph Ziggler’s release was perhaps the most surprising, especially considering he was on the cusp of completing 20 years with WWE. At 43 years old, Ziggler boasts accomplishments that even some wrestling greats can’t claim, including being a Grand Slam Champion in WWE, a feat not even achieved by John Cena. His skills, both in the ring and on the mic, make him a prime candidate for any wrestling promotion, and he’s likely at the top of AEW’s wish list.

Special Mention – Matt Riddle, another recently released wrestler, comes with some controversies but also a lot of in-ring talent. If he can keep his issues out of the wrestling business, he could be a valuable addition to any company.

These are the released WWE wrestlers we believe AEW will target once their 90-day non-compete clauses expire. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments and mention any other wrestlers you’d like to see in AEW.
