UFC 295: Stipe Miocic Confident About His Chances Against Jon Jones

1 years ago By Sports Desk

Stipe Miocic recently discussed his upcoming title fight against Jon Jones at UFC 295 and claimed he’s confident about winning. The two MMA juggernauts are set to face off at UFC 295 at Madison Square Garden on November 11.

Jon Jones made a spectacular return to MMA against Ciryl Gane after almost three years away at UFC 285. The legendary fighter showed no sign of ring rust and secured a first-round submission against the Frenchman. After getting the vacant heavyweight belt wrapped around his waist, Jones called out Stipe Miocic for his first title defense. This would also mark Jones’ first title defense as the heavyweight champion.

Jones is widely considered to be the greatest mixed martial artist by many. The former light heavyweight champion has the longest title reign and most consecutive title defenses (8) as a 205-pound champion. Jon Jones is also technically undefeated, with his sole loss coming via DQ. His record stands at 27-1-1.

Given Jones’ unmatched resume, many consider Stipe Miocic to be an easy title defense. However, the former two-time heavyweight champion recently warned fans not to underestimate him. Stipe Miocic is widely considered to be the most accomplished heavyweight in UFC history. The 41-year-old has stacked up an impressive 20-4 record and has the most consecutive title defenses in heavyweight history (3).

During a recent interview with BetOnline, Stipe Miocic boldly dismissed his haters and clarified that he’s immune to the criticism. The Croatian-American also revealed that he’s focusing on adding bulk to his body, not wanting to be outsized again. Miocic last fought Francis Ngannou at 234 pounds and lost dismally. Correcting his mistake, Miocic stated that he’s eating more and focusing on getting his weight over 245 pounds.

Stipe Miocic further added that his speed, angles, and power would hurt Jon Jones’ ability to assert his dominance. Miocic is coming off a second-round knockout loss against Francis Ngannou at UFC 260. He’s gone 3-2 in his last five outings, with three consecutive wins over Daniel Cormier.
