Valentina Shevchenko vs. Alexa Grasso: ‘Bullet’ Promises To Fix Mistakes That Cost Her The Title

1 years ago By Sports Desk

Valentina Shevchenko isn’t planning on repeating her mistakes against Alexa Grasso in their title rematch at Noche UFC this weekend. The former women’s flyweight champion recently discussed her upcoming challenge and promised she’s prepared for whatever Grasso throws at her.

In their previous meeting at UFC 285, Grasso shockingly secured a fourth-round submission to dethrone the long-reigning flyweight queen. During the fight, Shevchenko dominated Grasso on the feet and on the ground for three rounds. However, ‘Bullet’ made a costly error in the fourth round that cost her the title.

In a recent interview with Aaron Bronsteter, the Kyrgyzstan native opened up about learning from her mistakes and moving forward. Valentina Shevchenko noted that her biggest mistake was lacking the intention to finish Alexa Grasso as early as possible.

During the conversation, ‘Bullet’ noted the reason behind her downfall and promised she was looking to leave the octagon with the belt wrapped around her waist. Interestingly, Shevchenko also claimed to have shown “mercy” to Grasso in their last fight. However, there’s no chance of that happening this time around. Valentina Shevchenko stated that she learned her lessons and will be looking to defeat Alexa Grasso dominantly.

Valentina Shevchenko is among the most dominant fighters the UFC has ever seen. The 35-year-old held the women’s flyweight title from December 2018 to March 2023. During her incredible title run, she defended her championship against world-class fighters like Taila Santos, Lauren Murphy, Jessica Andrade, Jennifer Maia, and Katlyn Chookagian.

Meanwhile, Alexa Grasso is coming into this fight on a five-fight win streak. The Mexican native won the 125-pound strap against ‘Bullet’ in her last outing and etched her name into the UFC’s history books. Her unbeaten run includes wins over Viviane Araujo, Joanne Wood, and Maycee Barber.

Valentina Shevchenko has a professional record of 23-4, whereas Alexa Grasso’s resume shows 16-3.
