Breaking: Karolina Kowalkiewicz Booked Against Diana Belbita At UFC Vegas 80

1 years ago By Sports Desk

An exciting women’s strawweight bout between Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Diana Belbita has been added to UFC Vegas 80 next month. The Fight Night event will take place at the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas on October 7. Veteran MMA journalist Marcel Dorff recently announced the news on Twitter and revealed that ESPN MMA first broke the news.

Kowalkiewicz is coming off a title loss to Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 205 in 2016. The Polish fighter defeated Kowalkiewicz via unanimous decision, marking her maiden professional defeat. Prior to her title loss, Kowalkiewicz defeated Rose Namajunas via split decision at UFC 201.

While her career has been in limbo ever since, Karlolina Kowalkiewicz is making her way up the divisional ladder with a three-fight win streak. Her good form came at a good time for the Polish strawweight as she was on a career-threatening five-fight losing streak before that. Her official record now stands at 15-7 with eight wins and seven defeats in the UFC octagon.

Compared to Karolina Kowalkiewicz, Diana Belbita is relative rookie in the promotion. However, ‘The Warrior Princess’ has a similar 15-7 professional record with six of those victories coming via knockout. Interestingly, Belbita has never been knocked out in her pro-MMA career.

Since her UFC debut in 2019, Diana Belbita has two wins and three defeats in the octagon. ‘The Warrior Princess’ lost her first two bouts as a women’s flyweight before moving to the straw weight division. She will be going into her UFC Vegas 80 bout with a unanimous decision victory over Maria Oliveira at UFC 289.

UFC Vegas 80 will be headlined by a lightweight contest between Bobby Green and Grant Dawson. Their fight is scheduled to be a 10-round affair and will be Dawson’s first main event outing. Green previously headlined UFC Fight Night 202 against Islam Makhachev on short notice.
