Justin Gaethje Wants To End Conor McGregor’s Career

1 years ago By Sports Desk

Justin Gaethje recently claimed that he wants to be the one to send Conor McGregor into retirement. The top-ranked lightweight contender and ‘BMF’ champion is seemingly tired of the Irishman’s antics while inactive. While Gaethje knows the chance of a fight against McGregor is highly unlikely, he hopes such an opportunity arises.

It’s no secret that Conor McGregor and Justin Gaethje are on bad terms. Soon after ‘The Highlight’ defeated Dustin Poirier to win the BMF title, McGregor took to social media to slam Gaethje for not being worthy of such a title. They took vicious shots at each other on Twitter, with Gaethje asking McGregor to sign a contract and settle it.

With Conor McGregor highly expected to face Michael Chandler as his comeback opponent, it’s very unlikely that the UFC will book him against Justin Gaethje. However, keeping his hopes intact, ‘The Highlight’ recently expressed his eagerness to finish McGregor’s career once and for all.

During a recent pre-UFC 293 Q&A session with the fans, Justin Gaethje claimed that he “dreams” of ending the Irishman’s career in the octagon someday. He stated:

“I’d be lying if I said I haven’t dreamt of ending his career… He won’t fight me.”

Conor McGregor last faced Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. The Irishman snapped his leg during the ill-fated bout and lost his second consecutive fight against ‘The Diamond.’ He has been on the sidelines ever since.

Meanwhile, Justin Gaethje last beat Poirier at UFC 291 via second-round KO. With a two-fight win streak over Poirier and Rafael Fiziev, Gaethje is angling for the next lightweight title shot against Islam Makhachev. He’ll have to wait for the Dagestani to get past Charles Oliveira at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi on October 21.
