WWE Set To Pay Tribute To The Troops 2023: All You Need To Know, Date, Time, and Location

10 months ago By Jhon Woug

WWE is preparing to revive its ‘Tribute to the Troops’ event, a unique programme with its origins dating back to December 2003. Initially conceived as a way to send WWE superstars to interact with deployed troops at American military bases in the Middle East, this event has a rich history.

For 17 consecutive years, ‘Tribute to the Troops’ was an annual tradition until 2019, when WWE decided not to broadcast it. In that year, WWE held live shows at Marine Corps Air Station New River and Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune instead.

In its earlier years, the special episodes were filmed in locations such as Iraq and Afghanistan, but in 2010, the event shifted to American military bases. In 2020, WWE resumed the programme, recording it during SmackDown events for later broadcast.

According to WrestleVotes, WWE intends to record this year’s ‘Tribute to the Troops’ during a SmackDown event on December 8th. The broadcast date for the programme has yet to be confirmed, and it remains uncertain whether it will air on FOX, as has been the custom.

WrestleVotes tweeted the following:

“This year’s Tribute to the Troops event will coincide with SmackDown on December 8th from Providence, RI. likely a post-show taping as in years past.”

A brief history of the tribute to the troops shows:

These special events are a testament to WWE’s commitment to supporting the men and women of the United States Armed Forces.

The idea for Tribute to the Troops was born during the height of WWE’s “Attitude Era,” when Vince McMahon, WWE’s chairman and CEO, wanted to give back to the troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan during the holiday season. The inaugural show, held at Camp Victory in Baghdad, Iraq, was a unique and heartwarming event. WWE superstars like John Cena, The Rock, and Stone Cold Steve Austin entertained the troops with wrestling action, musical performances, and heartfelt messages of gratitude. The event was a huge success and established a tradition of annual Tribute to the Troops shows.

In its early years, the show was filmed on location at military bases in the Middle East, providing a welcome distraction and morale boost for deployed troops. These shows often featured a mix of wrestling matches and celebrity appearances, with WWE superstars engaging in thrilling bouts. The special also included segments where superstars interacted with the troops, highlighting the sacrifices they made.

Over time, Tribute to the Troops evolved. In 2010, the event shifted to American military bases, making it easier for WWE to produce and ensuring the safety of its performers. The show continued to be an annual tradition, with WWE superstars expressing their gratitude to the troops and showcasing their incredible athleticism.

In 2019, WWE decided not to televise Tribute to the Troops but continued to hold live events at military bases. However, the tradition was resumed in 2020, with the event being recorded during SmackDown episodes for later broadcast.

Tribute to the Troops shows have always been a blend of entertainment and genuine appreciation for the armed forces. They serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by service members and their families and provide a brief escape from the challenges of deployment. WWE’s commitment to this annual tradition reflects its dedication to supporting the troops and recognising their vital contributions to the nation’s security. These events continue to be a source of joy and camaraderie for both the troops and WWE superstars, solidifying their place in WWE’s storied history.
