3 Reasons why The Miz is A Better Intercontinental Champion Than Gunther

1 years ago By Jhon Woug

The Miz has done everything right throughout his career. No matter how much people tried to pull him down, he only came back stronger. The Miz has never been held back or pushed aside by any superstar, no matter how accomplished or how big they might have been. The appeal of The Miz has never faded, and having some of the best mic skills and promos of any wrestler on the roster, the former intercontinental champion has no more doubters anywhere across the WWE universe. That being said, this business can be unforgiving. Leaves fall, seasons change, and people forget what you’ve done for this business, what you meant to them, how you fought through life, and even who your wife is. The Miz has seen himself getting mentioned less and less in news articles, with the most must-see WWE superstar now nowhere around the title picture, and it is very much a possibility that The Miz may join the list of forgotten WWE superstars in the not-so-distant future. But to the ones who remember how the tough enough winner stood up to the big match John, on multiple occasions and for the most part of his career, gave the Intercontinental Title the prestige that it so fondly deserves.

But The Miz never held onto it for as long as the current Intercontinental champion. The Ring General needs no introduction, and with just one line that he is currently the second longest reigning Intercontinental champion in history, he stands apart. The Ring General has shown no signs of slowing down. Ever since he came to America, he has been too much for the other superstars to shoulder. And if there were any doubts about him being squashed like the other European wrestlers that made their way across the border, they have now been silenced and squashed themselves. But to forget over a decade of memory of The Miz as champion can lead to a few conclusions regarding why he may claim to be the better Intercontinental champion of the two. Here are three reasons to support the argument:

  1. THE MIZ WAS NO HULK HOGAN

In this business, you’re not handed anything. You either look the part, be the part, know your role, shut your mouth, and bring the crowds week in and week out. Or else you’re shown the door to go out. The Miz was no 6 feet 4, 275 pounds and struggled to cope in school because of bullying. But the attitude that the Miz possessed bought him immense glory and fame across the globe as one of the most known intercontinental champions in recent memory. The Miz’s hunger and drive for the sport were what took him to the pinnacle, and he never looked back. The ring general, on the other hand, even prior to his drastic weight loss, was still a specimen no one would want to mess with. The very size of Gunther’s hand is enough to scare the average male adult. Hence, The Miz may lay claim to being the better intercontinental champion of the two.

  1. HOLLYWOOD APPEAL

Sure, Gunther is a great champion. He will always be a great champion, but will he always be as bankable as the Miz? The showstopper has always stolen the headlines, be it the ring or the red carpet. The Miz is to sports entertainment what David Beckham is to soccer. The glamour quotient, that wow factor, that natural impulse on the microphone—it was all last seen in the 80s when a young Ric Flair was doing the rounds under then-big television boxes that had antennas. The Miz’s wife and former WWE Diva Maryse also adds to the wow factor that makes everyone want to be close to The Miz.

  1. NO SOCIAL MEDIA

The Internet has made everyone from the past decade or two look lacklustre. In today’s world, what is current is all the more important and emphasised. The more you are mentioned, the more your stock will grow. Young audience members may admire Gunther’s leadership qualities and how he has put in so much character and catapulted them to the top of WWE. Little do they remember that Mizb personally mentored under him rookies such as Daniel Bryan and Alex Riley. During that time, there were not as many web portals, and data cost as much as 30 McDonald’s burgers, so it was pretty hard to leverage the time when you were champion. Nowadays, every day a Superstar holds the title, countless articles shower him with a list of future opponents or compare him to the greats in history. The man’s never got any of that, and this alone will tell you how big a superstar and intercontinental champion The Miz was.
