Viral Sensations: WWE Moments That Broke The Internet

4 months ago By Jhon Woug

In this digitalized era today, WWE stretches beyond the small screen and live events. Social media platforms, with the likes of Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube, give wings to WWE content globally. Some WWE moments have gone viral because of their shock value, emotional intensity, or pure spectacle, attracting millions of viewers across the globe. The viral sensations not only increase brand visibility but also allow the biggest stars involved to leave a memorable legacy. This article will look into some of the top WWE moments, which absolutely broke the internet and will cover why these moments took place, what impact they had, and the legacy they left behind.

The Streak is Over: Brock Lesnar Defeats The Undertaker at WrestleMania 30

Context
For over two decades, The Undertaker’s WrestleMania winning streak was probably one of the most hallowed and sacrosanct records in WWE history. With 21 straight wins, “The Streak” was, by this point, almost a franchise unto itself when it came to WrestleMania lore—it was what drew in viewers every year, waiting and hoping to see if this could be the time someone finally put a notch in the loss column. In April 2014, at the WrestleMania 30 pay-per-view, Brock Lesnar was supposed to be up against The Undertaker, but very few actually figured Lesnar to walk out with the win.

That Moment
April 6, 2014, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, the unthinkable did take place. After three F-5s, Brock Lesnar finally pinned The Undertaker clean in the middle of the wrestling ring at WrestleMania 30, sending The Streak crashing again at 21–1. Utter disbelief peeked through the faces of every person in the arena, with many fans literally in silence. Of course, those who post via social media share, if not forcefully and unintentionally memeify, the image of a fan with his mouth agape.

Impact
The end of The Streak was a monumental moment in WWE history. It got mileage on all kinds of media; from ESPN to BBC covered its swan song-ness. Hashtags stormed Twitter with #TheStreak, #WrestleMania30 being trended worldwide. However, it was an outcome that completely shocked the fans and went viral with the emotions of the people. He rightfully submitted Brock Lesnar’s name to the annals of “The Beast Incarnate” and successfully landed WrestleMania 30 in some of the memorable events.

CM Punk’s Return on AEW Rampage: The First Dance

Context
When CM Punk left WWE in 2014, it clearly left a void in the hearts of his fans. For years, people have engaged in the chant “CM Punk” at the events organized by WWE, which goes to show all of the alarming signs. Despite numerous rumors and teases, Punk remained on the shelf as a professional wrestler. However, in August of 2021, AEW declared Rampage to be a special edition named “The First Dance.” That created an entrepreneurial spirit in a load of fans’ minds about CM Punk’s return.

The Moment
On August 20, 2021, CM Punk made his tremendous return to pro wrestling at the United Center in Chicago. The crowd erupted in a deafening pop as the opening chords of “Cult of Personality” pounded through the speakers. In an emotional entrance and promo to follow, Punk simply acknowledged his trials and the perpetual support he continuously received from the fans.

Impact
This made CM Punk’s entrance go straight up in a viral boom. Within seconds, his entrance video would pull over a million views on YouTube and other social media platforms. Hashtags #CMPunk and #AEWRampage was trending worldwide, absolutely dominating wrestling discourse. CM Punk’s return did not only heighten AEW’s credibility, but it proved the power of wrestling narratives resides with fans.

The Pipebomb: One of the Most All-Time Great Prom

Context
In June 2011, CM Punk was involved in one of the biggest storylines: his WWE contract was ending. So, one can receive a live microphone during an episode of Raw, and Punk delivered an incredibly harsh, unscripted promo—pretty much referred to thereafter as “the Pipebomb.” This obviously broke through all reprehension and, as a sign of resistance, had snowy elements—a clearance of integers between the actual and the possible.

That Moment
He sat cross-legged in the middle of the ring and vented all his anger against WWE, against Vince McMahon, against Triple H, and alluded at various other wrestling promotions. This was Punk’s raw, unencumbered emotion laid in front of millions whose bitterness had metastasized for years. At last, officials cut off his microphone, striking up this act with one more touch of unpredictability and anarchy.

Impact
The Pipebomb promo instantly reigned over the web, as the reaction reflected fans of wrestling and non-fans. Through social media reflections there was no doubt the promo was being viewed and talked about the most in the WWE. Punk’s promo helped spawn new interest in the WWE product, especially his program with John Cena and the battle for the WWE Championship. It is considered one of the greatest promos in wrestling, as it works to further cement CM Punk’s legacy as a master of the microphone.

Yes Movement: The Road to WrestleMania 30 of Daniel Bryan

Context
In the early 2010s, Daniel Bryan’s popularity skyrocketed because of his in-ring skills and the underdog persona common in his wrestling character. And despite his connection with the fans, WWE management viewed him prior as a “B+” player, not a player in the main event. The fans’ support towards Bryan, marked by “Yes!” chants, turned into a movement that WWE could no longer disregard.

The Moment
On March 10, 2014, Bryan would lead a protest of what he called the “Yes Movement” where he and a group of fans filled the ring area until Triple H relented to face him at WrestleMania 30. And the victory over him will grant him a spot in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match at that event.

At WrestleMania 30, Bryan bested Triple H, Randy Orton, and Batista for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, in the process giving rise to what has been described as arguably one of the most feel-good moments that ever took place in WWE history.

Impact
Then came the culmination of the Yes Movement at WrestleMania 30, which went viral with fans worldwide rejoicing in Bryan’s win. The “Yes!” chant became a cultural phenomenon outside the realms of wrestling and penetrated into sporting events and public gatherings. With Bryan holding the gold and a win stemming from the WWE Universe supporters, this further marked WWE’s illustration of drawing emotional storyline ‘moments’ and constants in continually creating storylines.

The Shield’s First Appearance and Reign

Context
The Shield, consisting of Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns, debuted at Survivor Series in 2012. They quickly established themselves at the forefront of the alliance with hard-hitting promos and matches. It was the charisma, in-ring pool, and tactical feeding, though, which saw The Shield reveal themselves as one of the most compelling abodes in WWE.

That Moment
If the date that The Shield members’s greatest moment would be pinpointed, it was when, on June 14, 2013, in an episode of SmackDown, in the six-man tag team match versus Team Hell No comprised of Daniel Bryan and Kane and Randy Orton the complexity of what it was they went through before reenacted in what was called The Shield remarkable work of teamwork and claim never-say-die attitude. Of course, as guessed, it resulted in a win by The Shield to prove them once again an impregnable force.

Impact
Their dominance captured the imagination of the wrestling world before very long. Their debut and follow-up generated literally incredible viewership, with #TheShield and #BelieveInTheShield becoming regular trends across the spectrum of social media. All of the success ends up culminating with the success of that particular faction and becoming something of a springboard to propel Ambrose, Rollins, and Reigns into three separate but high-profile, single’s careers across the empire of sports-entertainment.

Becky Lynch Becomes “The Man”

Context
Becky Lynch’s transformation into “The Man” turned out to be pivotal in her career and with regard to the general scene of women in WWE. Her new demeanor came out on her friend-turned-rival Charlotte Flair at SummerSlam 2018. The overall aggressive and fiery confidence in the persona of Lynch brings forth the new character that stands for women and empowerment.

The Moment
On November 12, 2018, just minutes into an episode of Raw, Becky Lynch led an invasion of the SmackDown women’s roster on Raw. The emerging melee’s fallout was originally reported to be a presumed broken nose and possible concussion for Lynch after getting caught with an unscripted hit from Nia Jax. With her face bloodied and her spirit unabated, Lynch continued to fight as the image of her standing tall became an iconic visual in wrestling history.

Impact
The image of Lynch with a bloodied face became a sensation on social media, with her nickname being referred to as “The Man.” Fans were by her side, and since then she has become one of the top stars. The incident only boosted Becky’s popularity, and she could fight in a women’s main event match in WrestleMania 35, winning both the Raw and SmackDown Women’s titles. The moment was testament to the way social media can boost a wrestler’s character and storyline.

KofiMania

Context
Kofi Kingston had run his time in WWE for ages, starting with everybody having so much love for him. However, he never got anything close to a real push towards the main event. Proverbial groundswell of fan support, which earned the nickname “KofiMania,” began in earnest after Kingston put on a sublime performance in a gauntlet match, early 2019. And with fan support that anyone can take notice of, Kingston was finally given an opportunity to step up and challenge for the WWE Championship on the grandest stage of them all during WrestleMania 35.

The Moment
On 7th April 2019, at WrestleMania 35, Kofi Kingston fought with Daniel Bryan in regard to the WWE Championship. After this heartfelt, epic struggle, Kingston finally emerged on top and won his first-ever WWE title. Fan and fellow wrestler reaction after the win was an outpouring of emotion for the breakthrough moment in representation and perseverance within WWE.

Impact
Kingston’s victory at WrestleMania was a social media sensation, with fans and celebrities hailing that win. His victory represented not just a personal milestone but a victory for diversity and representation in professional wrestling. His win basked in its own glory, much like any stable sport in the world.

Ronda Rousey’s Debut

Setting
Ronda Rousey, an ex-UFC champion and Olympic medalist, made her way through the 2018 Royal Rumble into the WWE. Her transition between professional MMA and professional wrestling sparked quite the whirl of interest among fans and viewers.

The Moment
She showed up in the ring dressed in her “Rowdy” Roddy Piper-themed attire during the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble match on January 28, 2018. At that time, Rousey indicated that she would be competing at the grandest stage of them all, courtesy of WWE. Seeing her elicits a combination of reactions from the crowd—surprise and excitement.

Impact
The Ronda Rousey WWE debut went viral and truly took eyeballs to the product, with millions watching her reveal on YouTube alone and a mainstream coverage that followed. An addition of legitimacy, the squirt-on-top, with Ronda Rousey as part of WWE, came debuting in WWE. The Ronda Rousey debut at the Royal Rumble continued to put an emphasis on the crossover appeal at WWE and the surprise factor adding to the creation of viral moments.

Shane McMahon’s Leap of Faith at WrestleMania 32

Setting
Shane McMahon, a man most renowned for his death-defying stunt work, returned to WWE in 2016 after a seven-year hiatus. Making an appearance for his Hell in a Cell match, Shane was scheduled to fight Undertaker at WrestleMania 32. As always, since this was the one and only Shane-O-Mac, fans knew he’d pull something big—again.

The Moment
During the match, Shane McMahon climbed clear to the very top of the 20-foot Hell in a Cell structure and stood there. In a shocking moment, he threw himself off of the Cell, sending himself clear through the air and targeted The Undertaker, who was laid out on an announcer’s table. The Undertaker moved at the last moment, as Shane crashed through the table in simply breathtaking athleticism and fearlessness.

Shane McMahon’s leap and fall of faith definitely made its way into the most replayed and talked-about clip from WrestleMania 32. The very clip went viral, fans, and media outlets lauding Shane’s commitment and guts. That was the moment depicting exactly how far WWE superstars will go in trying to thrill their audience—Carol and athleticism, being the key components that identify WWE.

The Fiend’s Entrance

Context
Likely the most highly anticipated up-and-coming character transmogrification in all the WWE, Bray Wyatt’s reinvention came on the heels of a series of spooky, unsettling “Firefly Fun House” vignettes. Fans were itching to find out how The Fiend would be represented in the ring, coming as a result of those vignettes.

The Moment
At SummerSlam 2019, The Fiend made his in-ring debut against Finn Bálor. It was all brought to life during the entrance: the remix of the established Bray Wyatt entrance theme and that of a lantern that was very much like his head — the way it was replaced with Wyatt’s shorn head.

His dominance here, much like the entire scope of his character work, really stood out. Impact The Fiend’s debut went viral, with fans and critics alike falling in love with the creativity and execution of the character. Social media was deliberating all over reactions, bottle art, and discussions regarding The Fiend and the potential impact it could have within WWE music. More than anything, the debut of the character proves WWE can create compelling and innovative characters that can truly captivate the audience.

Conclusion
These are the viral moments that somehow depict the dynamic and many essence of WWE, from striking, smashing upsets and the emotional win to character debuts and death-defying stunts down to a T. The power of social media delivers spectacular moments as these further, making them certain to be caught not just in real time but historically in the archives of wrestling. As WWE continues to transform, there’s nothing but new viral sensations in store—spinning the heads and igniting the passionate hearts of more and more fans across the world.
