5 WWE Superstars Who Deserve A Main Event Match At Payback 2023

9 months ago By Jhon Woug

The life of a WWE superstar is all bling and glamour on the outside. Fans, family, and friends think that their favourite superstars’ time is just around the corner, and now they will be the next Roman Reigns or John Cena. But for some superstars, life is all foam and no beer. Yes, we are talking about the wrestlers who have waited years for their main event spot and are tired of trying and explaining to the top tier that they too have what it takes.

A decade ago, C.M. Punk told the fans in a podcast with Colt Cabana that he was being talked into leaving his spot for John Cena, which was supposed to be the main event with the Rock. The Straight Edge Superstar told how John Laurinaitis tried to convince him that there were two main events on the card. C.M. Punk said he wasn’t stupid and that there is only one bout that can be the main event, and that is the last match of the night.

Many superstars are eligible and have given it their all to reach this spot. Here are five superstars who deserve a main event shot at WWE Payback:

  1. DREW MCINTYRE

“What is yours, now is mine.” This line may well be resonating in the Scottish Warriors heads as he finds his push and momentum transferred to the younger and fresher Gunther. Drew McIntyre, not so long ago, was main eventing PPVs against The Big Dog and Brock Lesnar. But then the curse of bad luck struck again, and now McIntyre finds him in the tag team picture in the middle cards. This is one superstar the WWE could push back to the main event, and CombatSports247 knows Big D won’t disappoint.

  1. CHAD GABLE

After proving his merit as a tag team competitor, Chad Gable may well be on to the main event picture. His epic match for the Intercontinental Championship against Gunther will take place on Raw this week in Quebec. If a rematch is on the cards and should Jey Uso remain absent until WWE Payback, Super Chad will get his chance to shine on all banners, billboards, and hoardings as the main event of the PPV.

  1. THE MIZ

It has been nearly a decade since The Miz last headlined a PPV main event. The Miz has, however, kept himself relevant and ready for any challenge that may come his way. One of the best talkers in the business, the Miz can alone carry a feud on his shoulders and get the desired ratings for the company. If all goes well, the most must-see superstar in WWE may go one-on-one with the Great One’s lookalike, LA Knight.

  1. EDGE

The Rated R Superstar has hinted that he is unsure of his future in the business. A superstar of Edge’s stature deserves nothing less than a main event should he wish to call Payback his final PPV. The Ultimate Opportunist reportedly wants to take on Finn Balor in his last match after beating the Celtic Warrior Sheamus.

  1. TRISH STRATUS

To come back after a long break and still go toe-to-toe with the best divas in the business is something everyone should learn from Trish Stratus. Trish Stratus has shown that age is just a number and that she is here to stay and write the second chapter of her career with Glitters. Mae Young isn’t her inspiration, but to have her match as the main event would surely put the Divas Division in command to take the business forward. Moreover, her heated feud with The Man Becky Lynch has been well received and can just propel them to the main event at Payback.
