5 Records That WWE Survivor Series 2023 Can Make
The Thanksgiving tradition of WWE Survivor Series returns this year on Saturday, November 25th, 2023 at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. Survivor Series 2023 is the 37th season which we are going to witness in couple of weeks. In these 37 years from 1987, we have already witnessed most iconic moments of WWE, like debut of The Undertaker. In these years, we have seen various superstars making new records every year. Now again we could witness the same, here we bring 5 records that WWE Survivor Series can make.
One anticipated record that could be made this year involves Charlotte Flair’s match tally at the event. Flair has notched 3 career victories so far at Survivor Series, with her last win coming back in 2017. She bested Alexa Bliss in a Champion vs. Champion match. However, Flair’s longtime rival Becky Lynch currently holds the record for most women’s division wins at the event with 4. This record was originally made by Bayley at 4 wins before Lynch broke it by defeating Flair and Bayley in a Triple Threat match at Survivor Series 2019.
With their storied history, it would be fitting for Charlotte Flair to tie Lynch’s record this year at 4 wins. A potential match with Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair could accomplish this. Flair always shines brightest on big stages, and a win to match her biggest rival would certainly be a record-setting statement. At 16 career WWE title reigns to 12 for Lynch, and Flair continues to chase her records. Survivor Series 2023 would be the perfect place for the Queen of PPVs to further cement her unmatched legacy.
We could second record broken in terms of time in an elimination match. One of the most enduring records in Survivor Series history is for the longest traditional elimination match, currently standing at 52 minutes and 55 seconds. This record was set at Survivor Series 2016 in an epic 10-man tag team match pitting Team RAW against Team SmackDown. With the rosters split for the first time in the brand extension era, fans were treated to a thrilling nearly 60-minute clash between the top Superstars on Monday and Tuesday nights.
Stars like Braun Strowman, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens and more battled it out in a match that kept fans enthralled from start to finish. Despite its extreme length, the pacing and drama made it feel like a sprint. In the end, Team RAW stood tall after Roman Reigns was controversially eliminated by Seth Rollins.
This year at Survivor Series 2023, we may see this record shattered in the men’s WarGames match. The bout is set to pit The Judgment Day against Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes, Jey Uso and Sami Zayn in a massive 5-on-4 handicap collision. With the Held in a Cell steel structure surrounding two rings, there will be plenty of room for an epic and lengthy match. Similar to 2016, fans will get to see top stars like Rollins, Rhodes, Finn Balor, Damian Priest and Rey Mysterio battle it out. With so many stories and rivalries at play, the action could likely go over an hour. The stage is set for a classic WarGames encounter that steals the show at Survivor Series and breaks the record for the longest elimination-style match in the event’s storied history.
One of the most surprising records that could be set at this year’s Survivor Series event involves WWE veteran Carlito. The former Intercontinental Champion has not competed in a singles match at a premium live event in over 16 years. Since then, Carlito has made sporadic WWE appearances but primarily competed in tag team matches or multi-man bouts. However, the landscape seems ripe for The Caribbean Cool star to return to singles action at Survivor Series WarGames. With recent turmoil erupting in the Latino World Order faction, Carlito could find himself face-to-face with Santos Escobar.
After Escobar viciously attacked Rey Mysterio, it was Carlito who stood up to confront him backstage. With Mysterio now out with an injury, Carlito may look to avenge his friend and mentor by battling Escobar at Survivor Series. It would be a nod to Carlito’s roots as a promising rising star carrying the weight of expectations in the Ruthless Aggression era.
Now 16 years later, the former apple-spitter could prove he’s still got it by wrestling his first singles PPV match since his heyday against the dangerous Escobar. It would be a Potential Classic bout and chance for Carlito to etch his name in the Survivor Series history books.
One of the most impressive records held by a current WWE superstar belongs to Seth Rollins – he has defended his World Heavyweight Championship at every premium live event for the last 6 months. This incredible streak began when Rollins first won the title back at Night of Champions. Since then, he has stepped up to put the gold on the line at event after event, emerging victorious each time against the likes of Drew McIntyre and Sami Zayn.
However, this streak of consecutive title defenses at PLEs looks to come to an end at Survivor Series 2023. For the first time in half a year, Rollins is not scheduled to defend his World Championship at the November classic event. Instead, he will participate in the WarGames match as part of Team Rollins against The Judgment Day.
While Rollins won’t have a title match in what has become his customary spot, that doesn’t mean he is free from threats. The Judgment Day, especially leader Finn Balor, have made it clear they are targeting Rollins and his championship. Even without the gold on the line, Rollins will need to survive the brutal WarGames if he wants to exit Survivor Series as champion.
In the end, the Architect’s incredible 6-month streak defending the World Title at every PLE will likely end, but that doesn’t mean Survivor Series 2023 will be any less dangerous of a night for the champion.
One of the longest standing records in Survivor Series history belongs to veteran WWE superstar Natalya. She currently holds the mark for most Survivor Series pay-per-view appearances by a female performer, with 9 total spanning her decorated career. Natalya has competed at every Survivor Series dating back to her debut in 2008, except for in 2009 when she was injured.
No other woman even comes close to touching Natalya’s Survivor Series longevity. The only active stars with a chance are Charlotte Flair at 7 appearances and Sasha Banks with 6. However, with both women focused on championship matches rather than traditional Survivor Series bouts this year, it appears Natalya’s record is safe once again.
This year, Natalya will extend her benchmark to double digits, hitting the impressive milestone of 10 career Survivor Series pay-per-views. Despite stepping away from WWE TV earlier this year, the veteran returned in May and has been actively competing on Monday Night Raw ever since. She has already qualified for the 5-on-5 elimination match at Survivor Series 2023.
At 41 years old, it is hard to predict how much longer Natalya’s in-ring career will last. But she shows no signs of slowing down yet. Her unmatched Survivor Series resume continues to grow, and it may take decades for any female superstar to come close to matching her mark of appearances at WWE’s November classic.
